Tim Chang

Tim Chang is a Principal at Norwest Venture Partners, focusing on investments in wireless and digital media, and business development initiatives in Asia-Pacific.

Tim led NVP’s investments in and joined the Board of Directors of 3Jam (a multiparty mobile text messaging platform and service), Brite Semiconductor (a fabless semiconductor design and production services firm based in Shanghai) and Lumos Labs (a web-based provider of scientifically-tested brain training games). Tim also works with the boards of some of the world’s leading digital media companies, including deCarta (a geospatial software platform for LBS applications), Double Fusion (world-leading independent in-game advertising network and technology platform) and Veveo (a video search engine for mobiles).

Prior to joining NVP in 2006, Tim was a principal at Gabriel Venture Partners where he built Gabriel’s wireless sector practice. Tim led investments in Iridigm Display Corporation (acquired by Qualcomm), Sequoia Communications, Sandbridge, and Kajeet. He also contributed to the boards of Placeware (acquired by Microsoft), Arula Systems (acquired by Raritan), TestQuest, NextG Networks, and IPWireless.

Prior to joining Gabriel, Tim spent more than five years working in Japan. He was a Product Manager at Gateway Inc, and prior to that, a Development Engineer for General Motors, leading project teams across China, Korea and Japan.

Tim currently serves on the Advisory Boards of the Silicon Valley Telecom Council, Dealmaker Media, Digital Hollywood, TiE Wireless SIG, MIT/Stanford VLAB, VC Task Force, and Silicon Valley Chinese Wireless Association.

Tim was listed on the AlwaysON Hollywood IT List recognizing technology leaders in the entertainment industry; and nominated as one of five emerging VCs to watch by The Deal.

Fluent in English, Mandarin and Japanese, Tim holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar, a MS in electrical engineering/system engineering and a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan.
